Beverly and Dereck Joubert, co-owners of Great Plains, and National Geographic Explorers at Large are delighted to announce the upcoming publication of their brand-new book: ‘Wild Eye: A Life in Photographs’ on 11th November 2025.
The magnificent large-format coffee table book features photographs by National Geographic photographer Beverly Joubert and is written by Dereck Joubert. The couple are also multiple Emmy Award-winning filmmakers, explorers and conservationists. The new book invites the reader on a vivid journey into Africa’s most illuminating landscapes, home to hundreds of precious species.
A spellbinding showcase of the abundant wildlife and haunting landscapes of the African continent, this moving retrospective documents the husband-and-wife duo’s 40-year odyssey through Kenya, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. Many of these locations have been chosen to establish tourism and conservation via Great Plains camps and the Great Plains Foundation. The Jouberts’ enduring passion for wildlife conservation and knowledge of big cats, elephants and rhinos is unparalleled and is evident in the striking images of the continent they call home.
Organised into five themes – Awe, Compassion, Humility, Intimacy and Legacy – the photographs represent an impassioned call to conserve all forms of life, with each of Beverly’ images complimented by Dereck’s deeply personal reflections on the wildlife the couple holds so dear. Each section tells a profound story of connection, survival, and reverence, from a baby elephant bonding with its mother to the heartbreak and hope of rhino rescue missions.
Wild Eye: A Life in Photographs is a profound body of work published by National Geographic that promises to make the viewer fall in love with Africa over and over again and ignite a passion for conservation in all who pore over its pages. The latest offering from one of the world’s most legendary explorer couples will be available to purchase from all good bookstores.
