200E20th presents the debut solo exhibition of New York-based artist Vanessa Johansson, marking the first public appearance of her work with twelve new abstract paintings installed throughout the building’s Sky Garden Penthouse. This presentation highlights Johansson’s intuitive approach to color, atmosphere, and emotional abstraction, aligning with the residence’s atmosphere of calm, light, and expansive views.

Vanessa Johansson’s practice is rooted in experimentation and intuition, exploring abstraction as a language of emotion and atmosphere. Drawn to the fluidity of color, form, and meaning, her paintings exist within the liminal space between the subconscious and the external world. Johansson’s dreamlike works encourage a spirit of contemplation that forgoes a fixed destination or conclusion and instead embraces a slow, ongoing journey of discovery.

A New York City native, Johansson trained at the Art Students League of New York, where she refined her technical foundations while developing an intuitive approach to acrylic painting. In June, she will be featured in Women and Abstraction, a group exhibition of three female artists at Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr in Paris, presented in partnership with Barter Art Advisory.

In a neighborhood known for its Beaux-Arts streetscape and private garden, 200E20TH Street is a breath of fresh, contemporary air. Designed inside and out by CetraRuddy, this masterwork of contemporary architecture is elegantly curved, with sinuous lines of fine metalwork, and handsome proportions that sit perfectly on the corner of 20th Street and Third Avenue. The developer’s commitment to sustainability is evidenced in the high-performance curtain wall system, in-swing casement windows, and modulated façade that optimizes natural light and air for every room.

The Sky Garden Penthouse is a dazzling full-floor residence offering panoramic views of Gramercy Park, Stuyvesant Square Park, the midtown and downtown skylines and the East River, creating a breathtaking urban vista from every window. With warm and inviting interiors, this 2,461-square-foot residence is suffused with understated luxury, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.

The three-bedroom/flex four bedroom penthouse features two distinct terraces: a west-facing terrace just off the home office or 4th bedroom and a north-facing terrace that runs along the great room and extends to the primary bedroom, providing abundant space for relaxation and entertaining. The primary bedroom itself enjoys north, east, and west exposures, ensuring sunrise-to-sunset light and sweeping river views throughout the day.

“It is exceedingly rare to find a full-floor penthouse of this quality, with 360-degree panoramic views and private outdoor space at this price point,” said Elena Sarkissian, Sales Director for 200E20TH with Douglas Elliman. “The Sky Garden Penthouse is what its name implies: a soaring, sun-filled sanctuary unlike any other.”

Residents of 200E20TH enjoy access to the building’s carefully curated amenities focused on convenience and wellness, including a doorman lobby, a children’s playroom, a robust fitness center, and a secret garden reminiscent of the iconic park around the corner.
