The new release honours golf’s original championship, to be held at Royal Birkdale this July
Ben Lomond Gin, the Official Gin of The Open, has unveiled a limited-edition craft gin to mark The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale this summer. The Open Special Edition 2026 has been released in homage to the prestigious golf major, drawing on the wild, windswept character of the Lancashire links course.
This year’s expression is shaped by botanicals foraged from Royal Birkdale’s links including blackcurrant berries, wild chamomile and sorrel. Sourced from an environment defined by wind, salt air and shifting terrain, they join Ben Lomond’s classic London Dry base to create a gin that captures a true sense of place.
The result is a bold yet balanced profile of bright citrus and dried herbs on the nose, with orange zest, juicy blackcurrant and sweet spices on the palate, finishing sweet, fruity and refreshing with a lingering light peppercorn. Launched in 2019, Ben Lomond Gin has established a reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting gins, renowned for its bold flavour profiles and adventurous spirit. The brand was named the first Official Gin of The Open in 2023, releasing a limited-edition gin to celebrate The 151st Open at Royal Liverpool, followed by releases for The 152nd Open at Royal Troon in 2024 and The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush in 2025.

The Open Special Edition 2026 was distilled at the newly opened Luss Distillery, an exciting new spirits destination and home of Ben Lomond Gin located on the banks of Loch Lomond. The bottle features a bespoke screen-printed finish with geometric illustrations that weave together the iconography of The Open, the natural landscape of Royal Birkdale and the botanicals that define the gin.
Andrew Jack, Group Marketing Director of Loch Lomond Group, said: “Royal Birkdale is one of the great links courses, shaped by wind, salt air and terrain that changes with every round. This year’s Open Special Edition bottles that character, drawing on botanicals foraged from the course itself to create something that genuinely reflects the place. “The atmosphere, the course and the history make The Open the perfect setting for a gin that’s been shaped by the landscape around it. We’re looking forward to introducing Ben Lomond Gin to visitors to The Open again this summer.” The 154th Open will be held from 12–19 July 2026 at Royal Birkdale in Southport, Lancashire. The Open Special Edition 2026 (43%, £32) is available to purchase from Ben Lomond Gin’s website, with selected specialist retailers, at Luss Distillery and in the Ben Lomond Gin Garden at The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.
