Ferrari’s Past and Present Converge at RM Sotheby’s Monterey

RM Sotheby’s adds to its Monterey lineup with a 1993 Ferrari F40 LM, one of just 19 built by Michelotto. Also included are a LaFerrari Aperta, a LaFerrari, and an exceptionally original 275 GTB/4, all low-mileage or factory-documented examples in collector-grade condition. Offerings from The Ming Collection, known for museum-level care, further elevate the group. Together, they make up a very significant showing of Maranello’s finest, highlighting the depth and quality of the marque at this year’s Monterey auction.

The Ferrari F40 LM by Michelotto – One of just 19 examples built by Michelotto, chassis 95448 was completed to GTC specification with 760 horsepower, nearly 300 more than a standard F40. It features key LM upgrades including larger Behr intercoolers, a modified fuel system, upgraded camshafts, competition aero, Lexan windows, and Stoffa Vigogna-trimmed seats. Delivered new to Walter Hagmann of St. Moritz, it remained in Swiss and European collections before arriving in the US. Certified by Ferrari Classiche in 2009, it later returned to Michelotto for additional upgrades. In 2025, it received a $67,000 service and was shown at ModaMiami, where it earned class honors. With top-tier provenance, factory certification, and a true competition pedigree, this LM is the most extreme evolution of Ferrari’s 40th anniversary supercar (Estimate: $8,500,000 – $9,500,000 USD).

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta – Believed to be one of the final LaFerrari Apertas constructed, chassis 232856 is an exceptionally striking example of Ferrari’s 70th anniversary hypercar. Finished in Nero Daytona with Rosso racing stripes, this color combination is among the rarest ever applied to an Aperta. One of just 210 built, it stands out as a late-production example with a bold, motorsport-inspired spec. Delivered new through Ferrari Westlake and showing fewer than 2,300 miles, it features more than $113,000 in factory options including the carbon fiber exterior package, removable carbon fiber hardtop, FXX-K wheels, and a second set of LaFerrari forged alloys. The Nero leather interior is detailed with Rosso accents and Prancing Horse headrest stitching to match the exterior. Offered with service records from authorized Ferrari dealers and a digital copy of the window sticker, this is one of the most desirable Apertas ever offered publicly (Estimate: $6,000,000 – $7,000,000 USD).

2015 Ferrari LaFerrari (The Ming Collection) – Assembled by renowned collector Alfred Chuang, The Ming Collection is one of the most exclusive and meticulously maintained modern Ferrari collections ever brought to market. Housed in a private, climate- and humidity-controlled facility in California, each car has been preserved to factory standards with obsessive care. Among the highlights is a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari, delivered new to the collection and believed to be the lowest-mileage, single-owner example in existence, showing just 54 miles from new. The car has never left the facility, and all servicing has been performed on-site by Ferrari-certified technicians using factory tools and diagnostics. Still under factory warranty, it recently received a full service, including a main battery replacement (Estimate: $4,300,000 – $4,800,000 USD).

1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 by Scaglietti – A true icon of Ferrari’s front-engine legacy, this 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 (chassis 09931) is among the most original examples in existence. Featuring the highly developed four-cam 3.3L V-12 with dry-sump lubrication and torque-tube driveshaft, it was Ferrari’s first road car with dual overhead cams. Delivered in Rosso Rubino over Beige with rare cord inserts, it retains its matching-numbers engine, gearbox, and body, as confirmed by Ferrari Classiche. Remarkably preserved, the car spent over 30 years in climate-controlled storage and shows just 20,950 kilometers (~13,000 miles) from new. Sympathetically reconditioned by Bob Wallace, the car has since been exhibited at several prestigious events, winning Best in Show at Tutto Italiano and appearing at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. With its rare spec, exceptional originality, and low mileage, 09931 represents one of the finest GTB/4s ever offered publicly (Estimate: $3,500,000 – $4,000,000 USD).
